Have you ever spent a collectible coin, either on purpose or by accident?

I recently opened a 1977 proof set (to put the Ike in my Dansco) and a 1987 prestige proof set (because it was easier to sell the Constitution proof silver dollar by itself).  I traded the proof halves for a soda at the workers' cafeteria, gave the quarters to the laundry machines, and put the rest in my next Coinstar pour.  Hopefully somewhere a roll searcher becomes just a little happier when those Kennedys turn up.

I also know a collector who puts no-date Buffalos into circulation in hopes that the finders will start collecting.

Have you put collectible coins into circulation?  What do you think of the idea?

Sorry, I am too much of a hoarder. Do you have the prestige box still? I have the holder and coins, but not the pouch. I do like to purchase from the soda mess with non silver halves..that is about it.

Can't say that I have, modern or early stuff.  I've though about throwing back some dateless buffs and wheaties back in circ.

Sorry, I already gave away the packaging.

Here's another thought.  Do you know of cases where numismatic items were spent by accident?  I pulled a $20 star note out of circulation, then accidentally put it back in my wallet.  The circulated 2006 FRN wasn't worth much over face, but I did plan to set it aside.
.
None of us would ever do this, but I have read of cases where people even spent Silver Eagles at face not realizing their value.

I did not spend a coin, but lost one on the way to a coin dealer.  It was a 1965 Jefferson nickel that was clipped.  I had too much stuff in my pocket and it appears when I pulled my car keys out in a parking lot, out flew the nickel in its 2x2 paper flip.  Easy come, easy go.

When I was in the 5th grade, I spent two of my dad's 49-s Halves on hot lunch. What I did was horrible and so was the food.

Yeah, well we kids do what we can to make ends meet.  But spending a couple silver Franklins these days is just gut wrenching.

I might have spent a war nickel or silver dime before I was a collector but not that I know of.  I think the buffalo nickel thing is a good idea but I don't think any kids in my town (besides me) would pay attention to their change.

I once spent a non-silver Proof Quarter...only because it was already in circulated condition.

I've purposely spent some old Ike dollars that I had lots of duplicates of.

Also spent some 2012 Sac dollars from mint rolls once I culled the best out of the roll.  (Aside:  What does Philadelphia do to have so many nasty looking uncircs?  Denver does a much better job.)

Will probably also do the same from the 2012 SanFran quarter rolls I've got.
I also enjoy the thought that someday someone will be able to fill a slot from their change. :-)

I opened a roll of Anthony dollars and spent them, the I realized it was a roll of near date Anthony's that I had set aside.

I received and then spent a $5 Hawaii note, this was before I started to collect.
